About Our Service
What is rent-a-set?
rent-a-set is a Lego® set hire service. You can rent official Lego® sets, build them at home, reverse bag and return them when you’re done — a cheaper, easier and more space-friendly alternative to buying.
Are the Lego® sets genuine?
Yes — all sets are 100% official Lego® products. We do not use clones or imitation bricks.
Who is rent-a-set for?
Families, Lego fans, AFOLs, groups, birthday parties, and anyone who loves building without the long-term cost or storage headache.
Before You Book
How long can I rent a set for?
The minimum hire period for most sets is 7 days. You can keep sets longer — just choose your end date.
Can I choose my rental dates?
Yes — each product page includes a live calendar showing all available dates. Unavailable dates will be marked in red. Weekend days cannot be selected as the start or end date – this is because we cannot guarantee that Royal Mail will deliver or collect on a weekend. Collection orders are available most weekends – please check availability on the rental calendar.
Can I rent more than one set at a time?
Absolutely. Place an order for each set you would like as the basket is limited to one set per order.
Can I book a set months in advance?
Yes — if the date is available on the calendar, you can book it. We currently are limiting bookings to no more than 3 months or longer in advance.
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Not at the moment, but are working on it. If you currently have a Gift Voucher, please get in touch before you order.
Delivery & Returns
How is delivery handled?
All sets are shipped via Royal Mail tracked 24 to ensure safe delivery.
How long does delivery take?
Sets are diaptched the working day before your chosen start date. As we use Royal Mail tracked 24, the set should arrive on or before your start date.
Do I need to keep any packaging?
Yes — you’ll need the packaging to reverse bag and send the set back.
How do I return the set?
- Re-bag the set correctly – If you’re not familiar with the reverse bagging process, watch our video on our partner YouTube channel. Minifigures should remain built and placed in the Minifigures bag.
- Pack everything as received – Include all sealed bags, instructions, and any additional items in the original box.
- If posting the set back to us, seal the box securely – Use the four black and two yellow cable ties supplied, placing one of each at both ends of the box to keep it safe during transit. We’ll email you a QR code that you can use with the Post Office to return the set.
- Drop it off at the designated point
Pieces, Parts & Build Quality
What if a piece is missing?
Occasionally a set may be missing a piece or two that we don’t know about (or it may have arrived but then been lost during the build) but rarely does it affect the ability to complete the build and enjoy it.
In the unfortunate event that you encounter a part missing from the current bag you are building with, please follow these steps.
- Check the spares bag.
- Check the next bag, in case it was mis-sorted when the set was reverse bagged previously.
- If you still can’t find the missing piece and it doesn’t affect the build, please carry on with the build.
- If the missing piece does affect the build, please contact us stating the step no and brief description of the part. If you can obtain the part number from the last pages of the instructions that would be incredibly helpful. We will make arrangements to get the part replaced and sent out to you.
What if something gets damaged?
Accidents happen — just let us know on the Missing Parts form. Minor wear is usually not a problem.
Do I need to sort pieces when returning?
Before return, the sets must be completely dismantled and sorted as follows:
- Sets completely dismantled
- Bricks carefully returned back into numbered bags as per instructions, for the enjoyment of the next builder. We refer to this as Reverse Bagging – work backwards through the instructions to breakdown the set. Watch our video on our partner YouTube channel
- Any missing parts should be recorded on the Missing Parts form so that they can be replaced before the next hire.
- Stickers should not be removed
- Minifigures should not be dismantled
- Windows with glass, wheels with tyres and hinge pieces can be left together.
Always use your hands or a Brick separator to separate the bricks. Never use a knife or other sharp object, it will damage the bricks. (This includes teeth!)
Will I be charged for replacement parts?
We understand that individual bricks may be lost. rent-a-set adds no surcharge for a loss where less than 20 LEGO® bricks are missing per set. This is only valid for standard LEGO® bricks and does not apply for electronic parts and other accessories, such as motors, electronics, minifigs, manuals and illustration material, special parts explicitly labelled as unique parts on the information sheet. If we find that these accessories or more than 20 bricks are missing upon return, rent-a-set will charge the customer a surcharge in accordance with the value of the missing materials to replace them.
Pricing, Deposits & Charges
How much does renting cost?
Each set has a fixed minimum hire price and a daily rate for any extra days. The full price will be displayed once your hire dates have been chosen.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
Yes, all sets require a fully refundable deposit as part of the total hire price.
When do I get my deposit back?
Usually within 3–5 business days after we check your set back in, provided there are no issues with missing items or reverse bagging.
Are there late fees?
A small daily fee applies if a set is returned late. If you need more time, contact us before the return date.
What if I don’t reverse bag?
Sets that are returned without completing the reverse bagging process will incur a £50 charge, which will be taken from the deposit.
Order Changes & Cancellations
Can I change my booking dates?
Yes — as long as the set hasn’t been dispatched and the new dates are available.
Can I cancel my order?
Orders can be cancelled before dispatch. Once shipped, the rental period begins.
